Central Emergency Operation Center recommends safety
The latest weather update indicates that the mild typhoon Mekkhala is located approximately 150 km west northwest of Kinmen as of 14:30 this afternoon (Aug 11) and traveling north northwest at 27 km/h. There are still strong gusts in Kinmen. However, it is expected that the typhoon is growing weaker and the storm circle shrinks. The Central Weather Bureau expects to lift the sea warning of Mekkhala. The commander of the Center and Minister of the Interior Hsu, Kuo-yung called for the third work meeting on 14:00 Aug 11, pointing out the following key points for governments of all levels:
  1. There is still a good chance that the subsequent southwester flow will bring torrential rain or downpour. The Central Weather Bureau is instructed to provide weather updates and warning to local governments for them to prepare for what may come after the typhoon.
  2. Restoration is underway at local governments at the wake of Mekkhala. Assistance should be provided to local governments for environment cleaning and sanitation. Special attention is required for the prevention of Dengue fever and the growth of disease vector pests.
  3. The sea state information provided by Central Weather Bureau still suggests a good chance of strong gusts and swells along the coasts of Taiwan in the wake of Mekkhala. All citizens are advised against staying close to rivers, watching tides by the sea or any water activity.
  4. The Center Emergency Operation Center will be closed on 14:30 and the response mechanism of individual government department will take over. Nevertheless, all departments involved are still advised to stay in contact with local government for response to any possible emergency.
