Disaster Prevention and Response Report No. 1 for Typhoon Lupit

I. The dynamic status of the typhoon (data source: Central Weather Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications)
 
        The center of mild typhoon Lupit was located at 23.6 degrees north latitude and 116.9 degrees east longitude at 14:00 on Aug 5, 2021, which is about 180 kilometers in the west southwest of Kinmen and it is drifting north turning slowly towards north northwest. Its central pressure is 988 hPa and the maximum sustained wind speed near the center is 20 meters per second (equivalent to 72 kilometers per hour), which is equivalent to Grade 8 wind. The maximum instantaneous wind speed is 28 meters per second (equivalent to 101 kilometers per hour), which is equivalent to Grade 10 wind. The center of the typhoon is located at 24.5 degrees north latitude and 116.8 degrees east longitude at 14:00 on Aug 6 which is about 160 kilometers in the west of Kinmen. The latest weather data indicates that Typhoon Lupit made landfall in the coastal area of Guangdong, China at 12:00 on Aug 5. It is drafting north and turning north northwest. The storm radius of the typhoon has entered Taiwan Strait and it is posing a threat to Taiwan Strait. It is estimated that the intensity of the typhoon will weaken slightly and its storm radius will decrease.
 
        The sailing and operating vessels in the northern and southern sea area of Taiwan Strait need to pay close attention; with the impact of the typhoon and its peripheral circulation, the winds and waves in Taiwan Strait, the southeastern sea area and Bashi Strait have gradually increased today (8/5); strong winds equivalent to level 8 to 9 are expected in Penghu, Kinmen, Mazu as well as in the central, southern, southeastern (including Orchid Island and Green Island) region and the coastal open space areas of Hengchun Peninsula. Strong winds equivalent to level 8 to 9 are also expected to occur in Dongsha Island and strong winds and waves are expected in the adjacent sea areas; long waves are expected in the northern, northeastern (including Orchid Island and Green Island), the coastal sea areas in the southwestern region, as well as in Penghu, Jinmen and Mazu, please pay extra caution to safety for any activities near the sea.

4. The dispatched manpower and facilities
(1) The Coast Guard Administration dispatched 632 person times, 91 vehicles and 24 boats.
(2) The police department dispatched 406 person times.
(3) 120 person times and 22 vehicles were dispatched by the National Army supports.
(4) 28 water pumps were provided by the Water Resources Agency.

6,861 households were out of electricity, in which all of them were repaired.
